What is a life coach?

Life coaching focuses on what’s happening right now, what a person wants next, and how that gap can be bridged. A life coach helps people build a vision for their future—and then helps them evolve into the kind of person who lives that vision. They provide advice, to facilitate one’s own process of connecting to their inner wisdom, and making choices about one’s actions and next steps from that place of connection. Every person can benefit from coaching in order to shift their perspective from impossible to possible. Coaching will help learn solid life skills of self advocacy and critical thinking, increase resilience and persistence to graduation, provide opportunities for increasing self awareness and self confidence, foster self determination, ‘view’ options differently and increase goal attainment. It is about shifting one’s language into: “I can do it!”.  A good life coach will help you with achievable and manageable goals and won’t promise you the world. From there, they’ll work with you on improving how you react to and deal with certain situations to provide you with the tools to stay motivated as you set out to achieve your individual goals. They’ll also be there to help you stay motivated when you’re unable to achieve certain goals or need to readjust your goals.

A coach is an unbiased brainstorming partner— you’re still the one doing the heavy lifting.
